Kindness Connects Us
Through events, outreach, and resource sharing, the Kindness Connects Us programs supports projects and events that spread connectedness and target the risk factor of isolation. This programs thrives especially because of our community partnerships.

Community & You
Community & You is a partnership between FWC and the Fort Wainwright Police Department to assist in suicide prevention efforts for veterans, active duty service members, and their families. We’ve worked with them on providing training and education, distributing Community Care Kits to units, and on the annual DVAM 5-0 5K!
-
Youth-Focused
Several of FWC’s projects are focused on youth in our community. Our youth mini-grants are intended to fund youth groups and youth-serving organizations to promote mental wellness. The Youth Advisory Council engages in peer-to-peer prevention efforts. And the FWC Lil Wellness Libraries get books about mental health directly to kids.

Community Education
Our annual Resiliency Conference is a free event intended to bring together presenters and workshops for a more resilient Fairbanks. FWC staff is trained to present suicide prevention trainings like Talk Saves lives (designed by AFSP) and our own Mental Health Safety Planning. We also work with expert educators - like Sarah Gaer, Mental Health First Aid, ICISF, and more - to bring even more free education to our community!

Alcohol Safety
Each quarter, FWC hosts an event to promote an alcohol-free lifestyle. We usually have a new alcohol-free cocktail for people to try and some kind of activity to enjoy. The events have included our Sober Summer Craft Night series, the Community Holiday Party, and more! We also share alcohol safety education and resources, and distribute drink covers and single-use breathalyzers to bars and breweries.
